    Ministry Name

After ten years of Pastoral ministry at Agape Ministries, and at the prompting of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Walter Joseph and Pastor Erica Joseph were led to resign their Pastoral position and to embrace their new destiny by faith.  So like Peter they left their comfort zone to boldly follow God in faith onto the water of their divine destiny.

After much prayer and soulful meditation they were led to read John Ortberg’s “If You Want To Walk On The Water, You’ve Got To get Out Of The Boat”, and it is from its consideration of the Biblical account of Jesus’ walking on the water (Matt. 14:22-36; Mk. 6:45-56; Jn. 6:16-21), as well as their desire to walk in obedience to the call of God upon their lives, that the name ‘Walking on the Water Ministries’ was chosen.

  • Rational For New Church

The obvious questions to be asked are why start another church in the city of Brampton? Are there not already lots of churches in the city for people to attend?  Apart from the fact that we believe that God has specifically called us to plant a church in Brampton, the answer to those questions is that according to the PAOC document ‘Possibilities in Church Planting’ and based on 2001 census data, the estimated population of Brampton was 324,784 residents and the reported Evangelical Churches in the city was 41.

This means that there were 7,922 people per Evangelical Church.  Therefore, based on the goal of the Church Planting Canada movement, the number of new Evangelical churches needed was broken down as follows:

    • To have a church for every 2000 people, 121 new churches are needed
    • To have a church for every 1000 people, 284 new churches are needed
    • To have a church for every 500 people, 609 new churches are needed

Based on the statistics above, the need for new Evangelical Churches in Brampton is great. However, as of July 11, 2005 the population of Brampton was 420,000 residents and is growing by 30,000 people every year (Mayor Susan Fennell, The Toronto Star, Section B4).
